VittaBurn is marketed as a liquid weight management supplement taken as drops placed under the tongue rather than swallowed as a capsule. The seller’s pitch centres on that delivery route: the claim is that sublingual administration means faster absorption into the bloodstream and therefore a faster, more effective result on metabolism, thermogenesis and appetite. It is sold direct to consumers online.
We have not tested it and make no claim about whether it works. But the delivery claim is a factual assertion about pharmacology rather than a subjective one, and it can be examined on its own terms.
How sublingual absorption really works
The rationale behind putting anything under the tongue is genuine and it is worth understanding. The floor of the mouth has a thin lining and a rich blood supply, and substances absorbed there enter the venous circulation directly, bypassing the digestive tract and the liver’s first pass. For a drug that is largely destroyed by that first pass, this route can make an enormous difference.
The classic example is glyceryl trinitrate for angina, which acts within a couple of minutes sublingually and is nearly useless swallowed. Certain hormones, some opioid formulations and several other specific drugs are given this way for the same reason.
Here is the constraint that marketing tends to omit. Sublingual absorption is not a general property of liquids. It works for molecules with a fairly specific profile: small, adequately fat-soluble, potent enough to be effective in a tiny quantity, and stable in saliva. Glyceryl trinitrate fits all four; it is a small molecule active at fractions of a milligram.
Most botanical extracts fit none of them. They are typically large, polar, chemically mixed rather than single compounds, and they require hundreds of milligrams to do anything measurable. Placing them under the tongue does not confer the properties needed to cross that membrane. Something else happens instead: the liquid mixes with saliva and is swallowed within seconds, at which point it is absorbed through the digestive tract like anything else.

Dismissing the entire format would be as sloppy as accepting the claim, so here is the fair case for drops.
- They suit people who struggle with capsules. This is a real and under-discussed accessibility issue.
- Dosing can be adjusted. A dropper allows a half dose in a way a capsule does not, which is useful if you are cautious about starting.
- Nothing has to disintegrate first. A capsule shell must break down before absorption begins; a liquid is already dissolved. This shifts timing by minutes, not by categories.
- Some ingredients absorb better in solution. Where a compound’s limiting factor is dissolving, presenting it already dissolved can help.
What liquid delivery also brings is a set of trade-offs the format rarely advertises: a smaller total dose fits in a dropper than in a capsule, liquids generally need preservatives and usually flavouring, oxidation is a greater concern once the bottle is opened, and shelf life after opening is typically shorter.
